Social Media is More Important Than Ever

If  anyone in the world still questions the relevancy of social media in today’s world, they clearly haven’t seen, heard or read any of the news reports on the struggle in Iran. The brave men and women fighting oppression there are getting their story out via Twitter, Youtube, Facebook and other forms of social media.

While the government continues to limit traditional media sources, they are unable to dam the stream of updates, comments and images flowing out of the streets of Tehran. Quite frankly, if it weren’t for social media, the world might be in the dark about these events.

Every day social media is changing the way we live right here in Utah too. Maybe not as dramatically as it is being employed currently in Iran, but it is impacting our lives. And there are plenty of folks here who are pushing the envelop, trying new things and connecting us better. The Utah Social Media Awards are meant to recognize them.
