Why $50 a Ticket?

Some have asked why the Utah Social Media Awards tickets are $50 and how much money the chapter is making off ticket sales.

To mount a gala like this is not inexpensive. We have committed to paying for expenses that include Noah’s in South Jordan, an excellent caterer, substantial trophy awards, a top-notch audio/visual presentation at the USMAs, and publicity to support awareness of the world’s first Social Media Club sponsored awards program exclusively recognizing excellence in social media practitioners and practices.

We could not produce this event were it not for seven wonderful corporate sponsors: eBay, Park City Mountain Resort, Advanced Brain Technologies, SelectHealth, Merrell Remington, Think Tank Creative Consortium and UtahPulse.com. Thank you!

Our fiduciary responsibility is that the chapter does not spend more than it brings in on the USMAs.

Despite the support of cash and in-kind sponsors, to cover our costs and pay for the physical awards, it is necessary to charge $50 per person.

If there is any profit, it will be used to fund next year’s Utah Social Media Awards and perhaps support some future SMC of SLC monthly meetings.

Remember, SMC of SLC is not allowed to charge local dues. Our operating budget is $0. Only the worldwide Social Media Club organization charges dues, and membership in the worldwide organization is voluntary and not required to be a member of local Social Media Club chapters.

Also remember that nominating for the Utah Social Media Awards was free. Most awards programs charge quite a bit just for the nomination, regardless of whether or not you attend and/or win. That means the only way for us to pay for the awards and the awards program is through sponsorship and ticket sales.

Why You Should Attend

We believe the USMAs will become a premier awards event in Utah. Already in its first year it has garnered the attention of the worldwide social media community, the local business community and mainstream media (watch for forthcoming articles and news reports about the awards).

The leadership team of the Social Media Club of Salt Lake City approved the annual awards program idea earlier this year and a group of volunteers has worked hundreds of hours to produce the inaugural 2009 Utah Social Media Awards.

Social Media Club of Salt Lake City, and its sister chapters in Utah Valley and Cache Valley, have set the bar and example for other Social Media Clubs when it comes to recognizing social media prowess among its members and in its local community.

If you live or work in Utah and you’re involved in social media, you will not want to miss the Utah Social Media Awards.

If you miss them this year, guaranteed, you’ll be sure to be there next year!
